The Power of the Lord Was Present to Heal
Luke 5:17
The church of Jesus Christ is Gods greatest organisation on this earth; it is Gods mouth piece for a dying world. Therefore the church must be a church of power.
What hope is there for a hopeless world full of war, violence, fear and sin when there is a church that has lost its power and reason of existence. It is the church of Jesus Christ that in the face of so much hurt and anxiety has the answer.
Sadly, today the church is more interested in entertainment, being relevant and professional than it is in having the power of the Lord evident in each and every service. Without the power of the Lord present in our services we might as well not have church, for it is His presence and power that makes the difference. We need like never before in the history of the New Testament church for the church to once again be a place where the power of the Lord is manifesting and people are being set free. The church’s greatest need is not for better music, more money, beautiful buildings and better counselling, what is so desperately needed today, is the power of the Lord to be present in order to heal.
In the text for this article we find that it says that Jesus was in a certain house and the Power of the Lord was present to heal them. That house, where Jesus was teaching, had converted into a place of power, a place where the miraculous would become a reality. It no longer was a dry and cold place, no longer was it a simple house, it now had the Power of the Lord present, therefore something good was going to happen. It is when the power of the Lord is present in our churches that our churches are changed from religious, dry and cold places where nothing is happening, to places where all things are possible.
What is the reason that the Power of the Lord should be in our churches, ministries and services? The Bible clearly says in this text, “to heal”.
That is the number one reason the power of the Lord is present. The word power here means the miraculous, wonder working power of God. The word Heal means to restore, cure, make whole, save.
This sums up the 4 reasons why God desires to move in our midst with power.
To save the lost: The power of the Lord must be in our services so that the Lost can be saved. God is still interested in the saving of souls and therefore the churches primary existence should be for the saving of souls. For this to happen we must have the power of the Lord present.
Heal the sick: The power of the Lord is what will bring healing to the bodies that are sick. The church must be a place where people can find healing to their sick bodies. Healing is all over the book of Acts and therefore must be normality in the church, for the same power that moved then is available to us.
Baptise with the Holy Spirit: It is the desire of Christ that all believers be baptized in the Holy Spirit, for this to happen we need the power of the Lord to be present.
Deliver the oppressed: When the power of the Lord is present in our services the oppressed, depressed etc will be set free, for there is no power in this world that can overcome the almighty power of our Lord.
Today everything under the sun is being done in most churches except these four things and the reason is, because the church has gone away from trusting in the power of the Lord and gone after man made methods that do not set any one free.
We must cry out like never before for the power of the Lord to be present in our churches so that we can be the church that God intended us to be.
