Heard Paul Speak
Acts 14:8-10In this powerful passage of the book of Acts we have a great account of a miracle done by God through a man that was totally yielded to Him.
It is a passage that teaches us clearly how God desires to bring about salvation and healing to man kind.
The Apostle Paul had entered the city of Lystra where the Bible says that “a certain man sat there, impotent in his feet, being cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked”.
Here was a man that was sitting, with a great impossibility, no way out of the condition that he found himself in. To sit in a place is to become part of that place, to accept the condition of that place, to be surrounded by that atmosphere etc. He was sitting in an impossible place, bound by a crippling sickness with no way out.
But thanks be to God that Paul walked into this city, right there where this man was sitting, showing us that if you cannot go to where Jesus is He will come to where you are.
Verse 9 says: and the man “Heard Paul speak” (preach). Thanks be to God that this man heard Paul preach, and what he heard made all the difference.
He heard Paul preach the Gospel and the Gospel preached under the anointing produced faith in him and set him up for his miracle and deliverance from his impossibility.
Paul Was Preaching
Once again I say thanks be to God that Paul came into this city and started to preach.
We need today more than ever before, for ministers of the Gospel to start preaching again. We have not been called to entertain, or to be life coaches, or even motivators. Our greatest business as a minister is to preach the Gospel.
We have people coming every Sunday to our churches SITTING in depression, anxiety, sickness, abuse, sin, impossibilities, lost, needing a miracle etc, and what they hear in many churches is anything but the Gospel, therefore doing nothing for these poor people in need of a miracle in their life.
I was told there was a church in our city, one of the largest, who a few months ago during their service before the sermon they put on a clip of “mister Bean”!!!, this was to make the people laugh, and relax before the sermon, “God help us”, there is a great problem when the church starts to put on “mister Bean” in order to make the people laugh, there are people sitting in our pews with their greatest trial of their life and all they can hear is a clip of mister bean.
Other churches, are putting movie clips as part of their pep talk, others are doing dramas, others just have music, others are giving out prizes and raffle tickets, all the while people are sitting crying out for someone to PREACH THE GOSPEL. The modern church has been so caught up in recent years, trying to entertain and be relevant, all the while people (souls) are walking out of our churches in the same condition that they came in with, yes they laughed, they heard good music, they won a prize but they are still in the same condition, and when they lie their head at night they know that nothing has changed. The responsibility lies with the preachers who have lost the meaning of their calling, they can quote the latest number one song on MTV, they can tell you what the number one song on the charts is, but they cannot tell you upfront on a Sunday morning with their Bible opened up how to be saved and holy, for they are afraid that preaching the truth might offend people.
Its time that the people hear us preach the GOSPEL, then we will begin to see salvation, healing, deliverance and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that we so much desire and are in need in our churches.
Preachers, get alone with God and seek His face for a message, then ask Him to anoint you to preach it, then come Sunday morning get up behind the sacred pulpit and declare the Gospel without fear or intimidation, and you will be surprised how many people will be set free by the power of God. Faith will rise in the atmosphere and good things will begin to happen.
This man in Lystra heard the right message, Paul did not come doing foolishness or preaching pop psychology etc, he just preached what he always preached and the man under the sound of his voice received a miracle that day. His impossibility was taken away, God confirmed the message with a miracle, the man was told to stand upright and this is what Jesus does he stands you upright with your eyes on Him. The Bible says he leaped and walked.
I finish with this question, what would have happened if what this man heard was not the message of the Gospel?
May God help us to preach the Gospel and that our people will hear it.
Evangelist Esteban San Martin
